Shanghai Labor Bureau Eliminates Expedited Services for Work Permits

December 6, 2012:

Put into effect on November 1, 2012, the Shanghai Labor Bureau stopped the expedited service for Work Permit applications in Shanghai. In this regard, all Work Permit applications (both initial and renewal applications) will be processed under the normal processing time of three working days upon submission of complete documents or information.

In the past, Work Permit applicants could request for an expedited service to meet urgent needs. With this new announcement, all foreigners who are applying for Work Permits in Shanghai will have to go through the standard processing time. The Shanghai Labour Bureau did not provide any further comment or reason why the expedited service is eliminated.

This processing time may be extended from 3 working days to 5 working days in the future; we will provide further details when formal confirmation is given by Labor Bureau.
