For Mental Health Awareness Week: a new tool in the toolkit!

For Mental Health Awareness week, we thought we would step away from relocation issues and give voice to what is truly one of the most important weeks of the year.

Too many people suffer from poor mental health and one of the best ways to combat this is through the use of psychotherapy. Unfortunately many are not able to obtain psychotherapy due to lack of convenience, difficulty in finding the right therapist, and cost.  Even though most EAP or health plans cover psychotherapy, benefits tend to be low and can only be used on a small number of sessions.

Psychotherapy has been proven to be effective long-term treatment for conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and more.  It should not be out of reach of Canadians.  Fortunately Inkblot Therapy ( has found a way to alleviate some of these challenges.  This is an on-line, virtual psychotherapy where you can select your psychotherapist and have sessions on-line. This creates convenience, saves time and is less expensive than traditional psychotherapy.

Please share this post, as it may save someone’s suffering or even their life.

A final word on this matter. Inkblot may help many obtain mental health care where they otherwise would not, but this is not enough.  Our governments need to take mental health far more seriously.  This has become a major health infrastructure deficit. Provincial and federal governments have not come to the table, although Prime Minister Trudeau has just promised billions over the next decade.  It is likely not enough. The need is extreme and waiting times for provincially covered psychiatric services is well over a year in many cases.  University on-campus access to psychiatric services is sparse.

Speak to your MP about mental health and make sure they know that this health issue has been underfunded for so long that it needs not only a serious financial injection, but also a serious action plan. Money is not enough.

Our next post will return to relocation. Thank you for sharing this post.
