Canada’s Rental Vacancy Rate Decreases

As reported by CMHC the average rental apartment vacancy rate in 35 of Canada’s major centres showed a slight year over year decrease. Their Rental Market Survey shows that the vacancy rate dipped to 2.2 per cent in October 2011, from 2.6 per cent in October 2010.

The report also reveals an increase in the average rent from $ 860 in October 2010 to $883 in 2011. The highest average monthly rents are in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Victoria, Edmonton and Barrie, in order from highest to lowest.
