March 11, 2012:
Canadian business leaders were asked to rank a number of key issues that should be addressed in the upcoming federal budget. Their responses clearly show that the gap between available jobs and the skill set of available workers is of key concern.
As reported by BNN, the Gandalf Group’s most recent C-Suite reportshows that the business leaders ranked skill shortage related concerns as two of the top four issues that should be addressed by the government. Coming in at number 1 is the need for increased investment in skills training and apprenticeships. Increasing investment in programs to fast-track more skilled immigrants follows closely behind in the number 4 position.
To prepare for this, companies should be looking at their relocation program to ensure they have the policies in place if they need to send an employee on secondment for retraining or to relocate a new international hire.
