Relocation Dust-up at the EuRA Conference!

I should first say that All Points gets a lot out of the EuRA conference. It is truly important to the industry. Some of the most important conversations take place there. We are grateful to it. And this dust up is an important part of that conversation.
OK, it wasn’t guns drawn at dawn, but there was a whole lot of tension at the EuRA conference in Stockholm this year, between RMCs (Relocation Management Companies) and DSPs (Destination Service Providers), and it was a tension that did boil to the surface at times.
If you think you aren’t interested in a fascinating struggle between Relocation Management Companies and Destination Service Providers, read no further. This blog breaks all rules about appropriate length and for that we are sorry.

Top 5 Difficulties for Repatriating Canadians

This topic mainly addresses Canadians returning from US assignments, or those that relocated on a more permanent basis, but now are returning as part of a job offer. Many of the top 5 difficulties can apply to repatriations from other countries, but some have a unique cross-border flavour. OK – also – it is actually the top 6 mistakes, but apparently that makes a less effective title.

Lump Sums – Indicators of Valid Cost Cutting Measures

It is sometimes nice to see that Lump Sum programs can validate good cost cutting decisions in regular defined benefit relocation policies. It is kind of like a “common sense barometer”. Unfortunately I am more used to seeing Canadian corporations creating capped relocation benefits in an ad hoc manner, not anchored to any Canadian relocation context except for predictable expenditure.

Top 6 Challenges Relocating Expatriates to Calgary

This occurs despite the fact that Calgary is going to be one of the most important Canadian destinations in the foreseeable future.
Insurance Hurdles for Expatriates in Canada

On a recent long weekend style trip to New York City, Audrey and I went to lunch with some friends from the industry (yes, Relocation invades our vacation mindset). The wife of the couple has her own business that provides auto insurance for expatriates on global assignments. Expatriates make actuaries and insurance companies twitch.

Don’t let your kids grow up to be movers or appraisers

OK – it doesn’t make a catchy “cry in your beer” western classic song, but it is true. Come on movers! Come on appraisers! Complain about me on my blog. Am I a terrible anti-mover-ite? Not at all. I think you all perform an important service for the relocation industry. But seriously – do you want your kids doing this? Apparently other parents don’t want it, or the kids don’t want it or both.
